ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The 48th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost a key Mountain West Conference road match in excruciating fashion Sunday, 4-3, to No. 40 New Mexico at the Estes Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell to 12-8 and 1-1 in the league while the Lobos improved to 10-4 (1-0).
UNLV began the day by losing two of three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0. The Rebels' only win came at the top of the lineup where Mehdi Bouras and Johannes Markel got by Ben Dunbar and Conor Berg 8-6.
In singles, Bouras, ranked 66th, eased by Jadon Phillips 6-2, 7-6; Tamas Batyi swept Phil Anderson 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3; and Alex Bull swept Berg 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 to give UNLV a 3-1 lead. The hosts, however, won all three remaining matches - all of which went three sets - to steal the victory.
The Rebels will now have some time off, not returning to the courts until hosting BYU on April 7.
