LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the fourth time in five years, the UNLV men's basketball team (24-8) is playing in the NCAA tournament and is the No. 8 seed in the Southwest Region this year after earning an at-large bid to the Big Dance for the second straight year and the eighth time in program history. The Runnin' Rebels, who advanced to the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament (played in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center) last week, will open their 18th all-time NCAA tournament on Friday, March 18 against No. 9 seeded Illinois. The game is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:20 p.m. CDT/6:20 p.m. PST (30 minutes after the conclusion of the Kansas-Boston U. game) and will be televised on TBS in high definition with Marv Albert, Steve Kerr and Craig Sager calling the action. The Rebel radio call will be handled by Jon Sandler and Robert Smith on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/98.9 FM in Las Vegas, while the national CBS Radio Sports/Westwood One broadcast will be handled by Brad Sham and Reid Gettys. The game will also be available via video streaming, audio streaming and Gametracker through links at UNLVRebels.com. UNLV has won six of its last seven games, seven of its last nine and 10 of its last 13. The Runnin' Rebels and Illinois have played two previous times, with Illinois holding a 2-0 series advantage.
