Bingson Hammers Home Weekly Honor

March 22, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Bingson was named the Mountain West Conference's Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following her efforts in this past weekend's Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.

Bingson, a junior from Las Vegas, set a new program record in the hammer throw Friday afternoon with a toss of 224-8.0 (68.47m). The mark ranks first in the Mountain West and the NCAA this season, according to the website TFRSS.org.

"Amanda has continued to improve week after week," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "She will definitely prove herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the MWC and nationally."

Bingson had most recently set the program record two weeks ago at the UNLV Track Classic on March 4, when she delivered a toss of 219-2.00 (66.81m), which set a Myron Partridge/Sheila Tarr-Smith Field record.
