The UNLV hammer throwers started the 2011 outdoor track and field season with a strong performance Friday afternoon from Myron Partridge Stadium/Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. UNLV claimed three of the top spots, including Amanda Bingson's school-record throw of 219-2.00 (66.81m).
Bingson's toss smashed her previous-best achieved last year when she won the event at the 2010 MWC Outdoor Championships with a throw of 210-2.
Joining Bingson at the top of the leaderboard was Chelsea Cassulo (58.28m) and Danielle Rios (51.00m), who finished second and third, respectively.
"It was a great first day for the UNLV Track Classic," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "Amanda's throw will definitely put her amongst the top throwers in the NCAA this year. We are excited to see her off to a great start this season and look forward to seeing what she has in store."
Saturday's competition kicks off at 9:30 am, with the men's discus on the field and the women's 3000m steeplechase.
