FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Playing its first dual match in nearly two weeks, the 42nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team rallied past No. 60 host Fresno State at the Wathen Tennis Center Friday.

The Lady Rebels improved to 9-1 with their sixth consecutive victory while the Bulldogs fell to 3-5 overall.

UNLV trailed 1-0 after winning just one of three doubles matches. The only Lady Rebel duo to win was Lucia Batta and Anna Maskaljun, 8-2, at the second position.

In singles, UNLV's two freshman standouts both lost their matches on top of the lineup so it was up to the squad's veteran depth to secure the victory.

Senior Anna Maskaljun was the first Lady Rebel finished, sweeping Olga Kirpicheva 6-1, 6-2 on court six. Sophomore Nives Pavlovic was next to score, downing Melissa McQueen 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Senior Adrienn Hidvegi won next for the visitors, 6-3, 6-1 over Abby Hayley at No. 4. The match was eventually tied 3-3 and all eyes turned to court five where Jana Albers lost the first set to Bianca Modoc. The senior rallied, however, to prevail 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and clinch it for UNLV.

"This was a solid win for us over a very good Fresno State team," said UNLV head coach Kevin Cory. "I'm proud of the way we competed after losing the doubles point."

UNLV stays in Fresno to take on Florida International on Saturday morning.
