FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels,com) - The 42nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team suffered a rare loss to an unranked opponent in a neutral-site meeting on Saturday, falling 4-3 to Florida International at Fresno State's Wathen Tennis Center.

The Lady Rebels saw their six-match winning streak snapped to fall to 9-2 while the Panthers improved to 5-5.

UNLV seemed to be in good shape early, winning two of three doubles points for a 1-0 lead. Nives Pavlovic and Aleksandra Josifoska teamed up for a 9-8 win over Liset Brito and Maria Spenceley at the top position after Lucia Batta and Anna Maskaljun won 8-1 over Christine Seredni and Giulietta Boha at No. 2.

In singles, UNLV got points from freshman Josifoska, who downed Lisa Johnson 7-5, 7-5 at the second position; and senior Maskaljun, who swept Giulietta Boha 6-2, 6-1 on court six.

UNLV eventually led 3-2 but FIU pulled out two long three-setters over Lady Rebel seniors to rally for the win. Adrienn Hidvegi fell 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 at No. 4 and Jana Albers dropped a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 to end it.

UNLV will look to bounce back when it opens a seven-match homestand on Friday when Boise State comes to town. Doubles begins at 10 a.m. and admission is free of charge.
