FORT WORTH, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The 53rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost 6-1 at No. 66 TCU on Sunday at the Friedman Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell to 13-10 overall and 2-3 in Mountain West Conference play. The Horned Frogs improved to 11-12 overall and 5-1 in the league.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches. The Rebels' only victory came on court three where Alex Bull and Kasper Konyves won 8-5 over Zach Nichols and Daniel Sanchez.
In singles, three of the matches went to a third-set super-tiebreaker but only freshman Tamas Batyi scored for UNLV, outlasting Nichols at No. 2 by the score of 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). In a battle of ranked players at the top of the lineup, No. 79 Emanuel Brighiu handed 62nd-ranked senior Rebel standout Mehdi Bouras his first conference loss of the season, 6-3, 6-2.
UNLV will close out its regular season with a home match on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex vs. San Diego State starting at 10 a.m. As the team's only senior, Bouras will be honored before the match, which is free of charge.
