LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - With just a few matches remaining as a collegian, UNLV's Mehdi Bouras set another program record as he earned his seventh career Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week award, the league announced late Tuesday.
Bouras also added to his single-season record with his sixth such honor in 2011 but, combined with his one award from last year, he finally passed Elliot Wronski (2006-09) for the all-time mark.
The overall UNLV record (men's and women's) for player-of-the-week awards is nine, set by former All-American Elena Gantcheva from 2005-08
Bouras, hailing from Paris, France, closed out his home career on Saturday by notching a win at the top lineup in both singles and doubles to help the Rebels defeat San Diego State.
Bouras first teamed with Johannes Markel to help clinch the doubles point by downing Tim Schulz van Endert and Javier Pulgar, 8-3. He then notched a straight-sets victory over Giovanni Vaglietti (7-6, 6-2) as UNLV captured the fourth seed for this week's MWC championship.
The Rebels will take on the fifth-seeded Aztecs again in Wednesday's first round in Fort Collins, Colo.
