LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebel track and field team participated in UCLA's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational Friday and seven student-athletes finished eighth or better in their respective events. Secoral Yanez placed first in the 100m 12.32) and sixth in the 200m (25.54), while Kelsey Williamson came in second in the 400m with a time of 55.72.
Davina Collins finished fifth in the 200m (25.50) just prior to Yanez's finish.
Ashley Franklin was sixth in the 100m with a time of 12.70.
The Rebels had three athletes finish fifth, sixth and eighth in the two-day heptathlon that began Friday. Talyah Polee finished fifth with a total of 4,315 points, which was aided by a second-place showing in the long jump with a distance of 18-8.50 (5.70m). Taylar Mills was sixth (4,307 points) with the javelin going down as her best event with a toss of 103-9.00 (31.62m). Mills was also fifth in both the shot put (36-11.00/11.25m) and the 800m run (2:31.99). Ashley Henry rounded out the trio in eighth after she claimed first in the high jump (5-5.00/1.65m).
The Rebels return to action with a split squad Saturday. Part of the team will compete in the third day of the RJ/JJK Invitational, while the other portion will participate in the Pomona Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif.
