LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebel track and field team split participated in two different meets Saturday afternoon. A contingent competed on the third and final day of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational at Drake Stadium (UCLA), while the remainder went to Claremont, Calif., for the Pomona Pitzer Invitaitonal. Overall, the teams combined for 20 top-eight finishes on the day.
Emily Blok led the Rebels at the RJ/JJK Invite with three finishes in the top four of her respective events. Blok ran a personal-best 11.76 in the 100m, which was good enough for second place. She helped the 4x100m relay to second with a time of 46.38, as she was joined by Davina Collins, Lindsay Roach and Secoral Yanez. She also placed fourth in the 200m (24.23).
Also competing at UCLA were Kelsey Williamson and Brett Zorich finished eighth overall in the 400m (56.82) and 800m (2:12.46), respectively.
Amanda Bingson had her name placed in three events at the Pomona Pitzer Invite, which included a first-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 223-4.00 (68.08m). Bingson also finished fourth in the shot put (40-10.5/12.46m) and fifth in the discus (139-9.00/42.59m).
Chelsea Cassulo joined Bingson in the hammer throw and shot put results and added a fourth-place showing in the javelin (122-8.00/37.38m). Cassulo was second in the hammer (201-9.00/61.50m) and fourth in the shot put (122-8.00/37.38m).
Adrianna Oliva was third in the shot put (42-4.75/12.92m), while Danielle Rios was eighth in the hammer (165-5.00/50.41m).
Deja Edwards leapt a distance of 37-6.00 (11.43m) in the triple jump, which was good enough for second.
Ria Daniels was fourth in the long jump with a measurement of 17-8.00 (5.38m).
Stephanie Schafer came in third in the high jump, as she cleared 5-3.00 (1.6m).
On the track, the Rebels had a trio of sixth-place finishes: Christine Lowe in the 400m (57.74); Erin Straughter in the 100m hurdles (14.70); and the 4x400m "B" team with a time of 4:09.63.
Ali Bartosch rounded out the Rebel contingent that placed at the PPI with her eighth-place showing in the 800m (2:16.80).
