May 12, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's tennis standout Mehdi Bouras has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year.

The awards were voted on by committees made up of head coaches in each respective region. The ITA Mountain Region includes NCAA Division One schools from the states of Idaho, Utah, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming as well as some schools in Colorado and Arizona.

Bouras, out of Paris, France, continued to add to his overflowing trophy case. The 2011 MWC Player of the Year and school-record six-time conference Player of the Week went 22-11 in singles while playing at the top of the lineup. As the league's highest ranked singles player, currently at 72, Bouras earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Singles Championship later this month. He and doubles partner Bernard Schoeman, who are ranked 43rd, took the league's doubles bid as well. Bouras, a former MWC Freshman of the Year, was tabbed the ITA Mountain Region's Player to Watch in 2010. He is the fifth Rebel to earn regional Senior of the Year, following Henner Nehles in 2005, Thomas Schneiter in 2002, Nenad Zivkovic in 2001 and Asaf Tishler in 1999.
