LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Rain delays helped limit play to just one round of singles Wednesday, along with one late-night round of doubles, to open play at the 2012 USTA/ITA Division I Women's Mountain Regional Championships, which are being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Host UNLV's eight-player contingent not only went undefeated in singles play, it did not even lose a set. Lucia Batta, ranked 43rd in the nation and the top seed in this event, cruised past Paulina Lopez of Montana State 6-2, 6-0. Aleksandra Josifoska, ranked 89th and seeded second, also swept her opponent, Colorado's Erin Sanders, 6-0, 6-1. Nives Pavlovic, seeded fourth, also had little trouble in the first round, downing Denver's Michelle Garpenlov 6-0, 6-1.

Rounding out the action for UNLV: Annett Ferenczi-Bako defeated Adriana Wojkowska of Colorado State, 6-1, 6-1; Alexis Garrett swept Ellie Crum of Montana State, 6-4, 6-1; Ella Bourchier downed Wiebke Boeckmann of Idaho State, 6-0, 6-1; Janine Erasmus got by Michaela Oldani of New Mexico, 6-3, 6-1; and Iren Kotseva beat Amber Stuhlmann of Utah State, 6-1, 6-0.

Instead of playing a second round of singles, the players moved to doubles and the Lady Rebels advanced three of its four duos. Pavlovic and Batta, seeded fourth, enjoyed a bye; Josifoska and Garrett downed the Stuhlmann sisters of Utah State, 8- 0; and Erasmus and Garrett got by Phonharath and Lloyd of Weber State, 8-5.

Play resumes Thursday morning, weather permitting, and runs through Sunday.

More than 120 women's collegiate tennis players are competing this week at UNLV as part of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions from the regionals will advance to the 2012 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 8-11, at the indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
