LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV players will make up half the field in Sunday's singles semifinals at the 2012 USTA/ITA Division I Women's Mountain Regional Championships, which are being held this week at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Lucia Batta, ranked 43rd and seeded first here, won two more matches Saturday to survive. She first swept Haley Driver of Denver and then came back to finish off Alexandra Kovacs of Wyoming, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, to advance. On the other side of the bracket, second seeded and 89th-ranked Aleksandra Josifoska also took both of her matches, 6-0, 6-3 over fifth-seeded Almundena Sanz of Idaho, and then 6-4, 7-5 over Tereza Bekerova of Utah. In doubles play, UNLV has one of the remaining four teams. Fourth-seeded Batta and Nives Pavlovic downed a Boise State duo 8-2 and then a team from Idaho 8-1 to advance.

It will be a busy day for the remaining Rebel contingent on Sunday as doubles semifinals are set to begin at 9 a.m. with the final following. Singles semifinals are scheduled for approximately 12 p.m. with the final following. Admission to all matches is free of charge.

More than 120 women's collegiate tennis players were competing this week at UNLV as part of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions from the regionals will advance to the 2012 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 8-11, at the indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
