WALNUT, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had a strong showing at the Mt. SAC Relays held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. The Rebels had six individuals notch personal-best efforts, including two from Secoral Yanez in the 200m (23.92) and the 400m (55.0). Yanez finished 13th and 20th, respectively, in the two events.
"The Mt. SAC Relays has always been a great meet to test our athletes in what they are capable of doing," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "The intense competition brings out the best in us and we are very pleased with our performances."
The quartet of Laura Affeld, Courtney Allen, Alison Bartosch and Corey Honeycutt claimed first place in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:09.41.
Affeld also ran the 400m hurdles in a personal-best time of 1:01.09 (18th), while her teammate Christine Lowe's time of 58.92 was just shy of her best set last week.
Others that set personal bests were: Zadia Bryant in the 200m (24.46); Lauren Petersen in the 5000m (16:53.36); and Ashley Henry in the high jump (5-7 / 1.70m).
Bryant also ran the 100m in a time of 12.35.
There were some other notable times and distances, as well. Lindsay Roach ran a 56.70 in the 400m and 24.75 in the 200m. Uchechi Anunkor ran the 100m in 12.05 and the 200m in 24.73. Erin Straughter ran a season-best 14.25 in the 100m hurdles; and Danielle Rios in the hammer throw (186-2 / 56.75m).
A trio of Rebels ran the 800m with Kelsey Williamson finishing 20th (2:07.86), while Brett Zorich (2:09.20) and Alison Bartosch (2:11.79) followed closely behind.
The Rebels are back in action Saturday with entrants in elite sections. The 4x100m relay is entered in the Olympic development section, while Amanda Bingson and the 4x400m relay are competing amongst invitational competition.
