LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - A total of 60 current or former student-athletes representing 15 of UNLV's sports programs are eligible to take part in Saturday's Spring Commencement Ceremonies at the Thomas & Mack Center at either 9 a.m. or 2 p.m.
The players listed are scheduled to earn their undergraduate or graduate degrees during the spring or summer semesters.
The Rebel football team leads the way with 16 current and former players who can take part in the festivities. Four from that group - Kenny Brown, Beau Brence, Yusef Rodgers and Imari Thompson -- will return this fall and play their final year of eligibility.
The Runnin' Rebel basketball team boasts six graduates, including two - Justin Hawkins and Quintrell Thomas - that will return to play one more season in 2012-13.
Also, former women's basketball star Jamie Smith is one of just six undergraduates that were selected by UNLV President Neal Smatresk as an Outstanding Graduate. Smith will be honored during Saturday's afternoon ceremony as she earns her bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a 3.9 cumulative grade point average. The three-time All-Mountain West selection broke the career rebounds record for both the Lady Rebels and conference this season. Off the court, the Hawaii product represented her program on the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, regularly visited Sunrise Children's Hospital as a Lady Rebel ambassador and guided members of her team to volunteer with Three Square.
