Seventeen Rebels Recognized For Academics

June 20, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second consecutive year, the UNLV track & field program had 17 student-athletes named to the 2012 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Team, which ties a program high. Two of those 17, Kelsey Williamson and Christine Lowe, were not only named to the academic all-conference team, but also earned the conference's scholar-athlete award.

Williamson (3.60, marketing) has been tabbed to both honors three times apiece. Lowe (3.71, hospitality management), on the other hand, has been named to the academic all-conference team three times and the scholar-athlete award twice.

In all, the program had 13 individuals selected to the academic all-conference team for at least the second time. Deja Edwards (3.18, kinesiological studies) and Lindsay Roach (3.44, kinesiological studies) have been four-year representatives, while Emily Blok (3.45, kinesiological studies), Ria Daniels (3.03, international business) and Brett Zorich (3.06, kinesiological studies) joine Williamson and Lowe as three-time honorees.

Two-time team members are: Laura Affeld (3.40, public health), Alison Bartosch (3.03, public health), Adrianna Oliva (3.26, hospitality management), Lauren Petersen (3.20, elementary education) and Stephanie Schafer (3.16, public health).

Rhea Hill (3.11, psychology), Corey Honeycutt (3.00, psychology) and Danielle Rios (3.13, health care administration) were all first-time recipients.

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic team at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
