Track & Field Team Earns Academic Award

Aug. 1, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field squad (3.05 GPA) was named a 2012 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team by the USTFCCCA. The Rebels were one of 171 programs recognized for owning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.

Individually, Kelsey Williamson, Emily Blok and Christine Lowe earned 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. Williamson (3.60, marketing) and Blok (3.45, kinesiological studies) are three-time recipients of the award, while Lowe (3.71, hospitality management) is a first-time honoree.

The USTFCCCA academic awards came two months after the Rebel track program had 17 of its student-athletes named to the 2012 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Team.

The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; or for the outdoor season, participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
