RESULTS: 2013 UNLV Track Classic | 2013 Alex Wilson Invitational

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel track & field team opened up its 2013 outdoor season this weekend with its own UNLV Track Classic at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. Overall, the Rebels had 31 individuals finish in eighth or better in the outdoor event with wins in the 100m (Ashley Franklin, 12.30) and long jump (Ayana Gales, 5.81m). Separately, four runners were dispatched to Notre Dame to run indoors at the Alex Wilson Invitational, and they witnessed Emily Blok run away with the 60m title.

Just one week removed from winning the 60m and 200m crowns at the 2013 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, Blok ran a time of 7.43 in Notre Dame, Ind., for the win after posting a 7.41 showing in the prelims.

Three 800m runners - Kelsey Williamson, Corey Honeycutt and Laura Affeld - joined Blok in the Hoosier State. Williamson finished fifth overall with a time of 2:06.37 while Honeycutt posted a personal-best effort in 2:10.59 (21st place) and Laura Affeld ran a 2:16.96 (35th).

Turning back to the outdoor competitors, UNLV had seven individuals and one relay (4x100m) notch second-place outings.

On the track, Erin Morris finished second in both the 100m hurdles (14.22) and the 400m hurdles (1:03.73). Jordan Hardy placed in both events, third in the 100m hurdles (14.69) and fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:07.90). Noela Estrada's time of 1:05.52 fell between Morris' and Hardy's in the 400m hurdles.

Besides the victories in the 100m and long jump, both Franklin and Gales showed well in the 200m (fourth, 25.69) and 100m (third, 12.45), respectively.

Taylar Mills was a busy participant at the Classic with a second-place finish in the high jump (1.58m) combined with a fifth-place outing in the 100m hurdles (15.08) and an eighth-place showing in the javelin (35.79m).

Cortney Miller and Myshauna Alexander fared well in both the hammer and discus throws. Miller was second in the former event (50.19m) and seventh in the latter (38.12m). Alexander, on the other hand, finished fifth in the hammer (45.52) and sixth in the discus (39.00m). Adrianna Oliva was second in the shot put (14.01m).

In the 800m, Auzsane Crowe-Carter was second in a time of 2:13.67 (PB) while Miranda Menzies was fourth (2:17.65) and Rhea Hill was seventh (2:25.54).

Courtney Allen ran in the 1500m (third, 5:00.51) and 400m (sixth, 58.08). Lauren Petersen joined Allen in the longer run, and she was eighth overall (5:12.28). Alva Castillo, who was fourth in the long jump (5.40m), ran against Allen in the 400m and was fifth (57.42).

In the pole vault, Myra Dean successfully connected on a height of 2.90m.
