Oliva, 800m Relay Take First In Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program had 19 individuals and two relay teams finish eighth or better at this weekend's Pasadena Games held at Robinson Stadium on the campus of Pasadena City College. Adrianna Oliva won the shot put with a throw of 45-1 (13.75m) while the 4x800m relay quartet of Corey Honeycutt, Miranda Menzies, Laura Affeld and Courtney Allen ran to a top time of 9:21.04.

The 4x100m foursome of Monay Meggs, Emily Blok, Ashley Franklin and Uchechi Anunkor had a total time of 45.61 in its race. Three of the relay members showed well individually, as well. Meggs finished fourth in the 400m with a personal-best time of 55.51 and fifth in the 200m (24.62). Franklin had two best efforts in the 100m (12.10), which was good enough for eighth place, and 200m (25.26, 10th place). Anunkor rounded out the trio with a fifth-place showing in the 100m (12.03) and a seventh-place outing in the 200m (24.92).

The Rebels took four of the top-six spots in the 1500. Honeycutt paced the group with a personal-best 4:39.88, which was closely followed by Kelsey Williamson's 4:40.56 (PB). Courtney Allen finished fourth overall (4:48.01) while Menzies was sixth (4:52.91 PB).

Williamson also took fourth in the 400m in 56.56.

Auszane Crowe-Carter and Lauren Petersen gave UNLV second-place finishes in the 800m (2:14.71) and the 5000m (18:25.72), respectively. Rhea Hill joined Crowe-Carter in the 800m standings with her eight-place finish (2:25.42) while Amanda Berg was five spots behind Petersen in the 5000 (19:54.71, seventh).

In the field events, Ayana Gales was fifth in the long jump (18-8/5.69m PB), Myra Dean was seventh in the pole vault (9-4/2.86m), and Olivia Hudson was eighth in the triple jump (36-8/11.20m). Taylar Mills placed in two events, the javelin (107-0/32.63m, sixth) and the shot put (37-8.75/11.50m PB, seventh).

Besides the personal bests listed above, some other Rebels had better times or distances than in previous competitions, and they were: Gales in the 200m (25.40); Menzies in the 400m (1:00.64); Munguia in the 400m (1:03.68) and 800m (2:26.65); Erin Morris in the 100m hurdles (14.00) and 400m hurdles (1:03.72); and Juliet Summers in the long jump (16-11/5.18m).

The Rebels return to action next weekend with participants competing in the Texas Relays (Austin) and the Cal/Nevada Championships (La Jolla, Calif.). The former meet is scheduled for March 28-29 while the latter is slated to take place March 29-30.
