First Day Of The Cunningham Invite Is In The Books

Randall Cunningham Collegiate Invitational Results - Day One

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The first day of UNLV's Randall Cunningham Collegiate Invitational and Sheila Tarr-Smith Multi-Events is in the book. The UNLV track & field team got an eighth-place showing from Cortney Miller in the hammer throw (171-9/52.36m), while three of its participants sit second, third and sixth after four events of the heptathlon were contested on the first day of competition.

Ayana Gales amassed a total of 2,901 points in today's portion of the heptathlon to place second heading into Saturday's finale. Gales had her best showing in the 200m with a first-place time of 25.32. She finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (15.68) and seventh in both the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m) and the shot put (31-4/9.55m).

Taylar Mills follows closely behind in third place with 2,860 points. Mills finished second in the shot put (38-6.75/11.75m) and fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.25). She was fifth in both the 200m (26.81) and the high jump (5-1/1.55m).

Juliet Summers rounds out the Rebel trio, and she sits sixth with 2,901 points. Summers was second in both the 200m (26.42) and the high jump (5-2.25/1.58m) and third in the 100m hurdles (15.25). She closed out the day with a sixth-place effort in the shot put (31-8.5/9.66m).

Besides Miller, Myshauna Alexander, Corine Owens and Kyra Day threw the hammer and the trio finished 10th (147-10/45.05m), 11th (126-0/38.41m) and 12th (123-10/37.74m), respectively.

Saturday's round will commence at 10:00 am on both the track and the field. The men's 4x100m relay kicks off track action, while the men's shot put begins the field's events. In all, the day will see 25 events contested on the track and 15 more in the field. The decathlon and heptathlon will have two events mixed in with the day's competition.

Prior to Saturday's activities, the UNLV track & field program will recognize its eight-member senior class - Courtney Allen, Uchechi Anunkor, Emily Blok, Corey Honeycutt, Alison Motor, Lauren Petersen, Kelsey Williamson and Secoral Yanez - at 9:45 am. The program will also host a "Fast Kids Races" at 11:45 am followed by the UNLV men's team reunion at 12:30 pm.
