IRVINE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program tallied 14 top-eight finishes on the final day of the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif., on Sunday. Four of those outcomes were heavily influenced by Emily Blok as either an individual or as a member of a relay team. Blok claimed the top spot in the 200m (23.54) and as a quarter of the 4x400m relay (3:40.41 season best).
Besides the two previously mentioned finishes, Blok was second in both the 100m (11.55) and the 4x100m relay (44.84 season best).
Joining Blok in both of the relays were Monay Meggs and Uchechi Anunkor, who also ran in two other events apiece on Sunday. Meggs was third in the 400m (54.55) and seventh in the 200m (24.19). Anunkor, on the other hand, was third in the 100m (11.70) and ninth in the 200m (24.30). Meggs' and Anunkor's times in each event were personal bests.
Rounding out the relay teams were Alva Castillo in the 4x400m and Ashley Franklin in the 4x100m. Castillo finished well in the 400m along with Meggs, as she placed sixth overall (55.55 PB). She also ran a personal best in the 200m (24.54).
"We were very pleased with the performances this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We had a lot of season bests and personal records, which helps us going into the Mountain West Championships in two weeks."
Miranda Menzies ran in two distance races, and she finished third in the 800m (2:13.91 PB) and 17th in the 1500 (4:45.66 PB).
The Rebels got a second-place finish from Erin Morris in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.86.
In the field, UNLV had a trio of sixth-place finishes in the high jump (Myra Dean: 5-3/1.60m), triple jump (Ayana Gales: 37-6.5/11.44m) and shot put (Adrianna Oliva: 43-5/13.23). Olivia Hudson joined Gales in the triple jump with her eight-place showing (37-1/11.30m).
The Rebels will take next week off before returning to action at the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Las Vegas. UNLV will play host to the four-day event that begins on May 8 at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. The meet concludes on May 11.
