LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior star Lucia Batta, ranked 41st in the nation, completed a successful first weekend of action on Sunday by winning the top flight of the annual UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Batta improved to 3-0 in her final season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ebba Unden of Long Beach State.
Two of Batta's teammates did not fare as well in their respective flight's final. Santa Shumilina lost 7-5, 7-6 to Alexis Thoma of North Texas in Flight Three and Anett Ferenczi-Bako fell to Nayara Moraes of Middle Tennessee State, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6, in Flight Five.
However, the hosts also got a Flight Three title in doubles play as Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga downed Laura Eales and Gabriella Tilkeridisova of Long Beach State, 8-5.
The event, which featured seven flights of singles and four flights of doubles, included individuals from eight schools.
UNLV is next in action at the Riviera All-American tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., next weekend.
