LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV had a total of 39 student-athletes named to the Fall 2013 Academic All-Mountain West Team, the league announced Thursday. The Rebels have boasted at least 35 representatives on the fall list for eight consecutive years.
The football team again led the way with 18 honorees, which tied last year's squad for the second most in program history. The school ranked fifth out of the 12 football teams in the conference for most players on the list.
The women's soccer team was next with 10 honorees of its own. The volleyball squad had seven and the cross country team had four included on the team to round out the quartet of sports that participate in the MW and are sponsored by UNLV in the fall academic period.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team. Overall, a league-record 534 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2013 Academic All-Mountain West Team.
