2014 Mountain West Cross Country Championships Broadcast Feed
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team will return to familiar territory for the 2014 Mountain West Championships Friday. The Rebels opened the season in early September with a third-place showing at the Fresno State Invitational at Woodward Park, the site of this year's conference championships. The women's 6K begins the day's action at 10:00 am, and it will be followed by the men's 8K approximately 45 minutes later. Both races will be broadcast live and for free on the Mountain West Network with a link made available at TheMW.com and UNLVRebels.com.
UNLV will be led by freshman Spencer Moore, who has been the top finisher in the team's previous four meets. Moore has crossed the line in seventh place twice this season with one of those occurring in the 4.2K at the Fresno State Invitational. Most recently, she ran a time of 21:22.7 in the Bronco Invitational 6K in Sunnyvale, Calif., two weeks ago.
Joining Moore in the San Joaquin Valley will be Amanda Berg, Lindy Eskin, Rebecca Hobby, Vannessa Martinez, Miranda Menzies and Nikki Regalado.
Five of the Rebels entered in the conference race are newcomers to the program. Only Berg and Menzies have previously competed in a league meet with the pair finishing 69th (25:49.00) and 68th (25:38.58), respectively, last year in Colorado.
The New Mexico Lobos have dominated the league meet for at least five years on both the men's and women's side. The UNM women are ranked 10th in the latest USTFCCCA Top 25 Poll, while their counterparts are 18th overall.
Historically, UNLV's best finish at the league meet occurred in the MW's inaugural year of 1999. The Rebels finished fourth overall that season in the 5K. One year later, the championship became a 6K race and the Scarlet & Gray took sixth, while Katie Barto was sixth individually in a time of 21:16.3.
