LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior Lucas James was named WAC Men's Diver of the Week for the third time this season while senior Dillon Virva earned his first Swimmer of the Week honor of the season, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award covered just the first two days of the three-day UNLV Winter Invitational, an event that saw UNLV easily finish atop the team standings.
Virva not only won a pair of events the first two days of action, he also swam on three first place relays. The native of Nevada City, Calif., he claimed the 50 free with a time of 19.85 and the 100 fly with a mark of 48.13. He led the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays to first place swims as well.
James, a native of El Cajon, Calif., won both of his events this past weekend in the UNLV Winter Invitational. He led with a first-place score of 306.25 on the 1-meter, and added a season-best 357.90 on the 3-meter event. That score ranks him first in the WAC by well over 50 points.
The Rebels will next be in action on Tuesday, Jan. 6 with a 12 pm contest at Bakersfield.
