LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point to ease by Southern Miss 4-1 in the first of two matches Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In doubles, UNLV won only on court two as Tamas Batyi and Dimitar Petrov downed Vasco Valverde and Chao-Yu Huang 6-4 as the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead.
Moving to singles play, the Rebels won straight-set matches on the first four courts to end it. Ace Matias breezed by Brad Marriott 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the lineup; Batyi downed Paulo Alvarado 6-1, 6-5 (5) at No. 2; Denys Pume defeated Vasco Valverde 6-0, 6-1; and Willie Sublette downed Alex Doleac 6-4, 6-2 on court four. The remaining two matches were then halted.
UNLV faced Weber State later in the day.
