LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 4-0 victory over Weber State to close out a doubleheader sweep Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV swept three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Denys Pume and Ace Matias got by Oliver Good and Sanjay Goswami 6-4 at the top spot. Tamas Batyi and Dimitar Petrov doubled up Jakub Gewert and Todd Fought 6-3 at the second spot and Willie Sublette and Jakob Amilon won by the same score over Caio Poitena and Landon Barlow on court three.
In singles, three Rebels quickly won in straight sets to clinch it. Matias downed Gewert 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1; Pume defeated Good 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3; and Amilon eased past Goswami 6-1, 6-1 on court six.
"This was a long day against two solid opponents," head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Everyone competed well and we need to finish strong against Riverside tomorrow."
UNLV will close out the weekend by hosting UC Riverside starting at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
