LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team won the first set on half of the singles courts Friday afternoon but couldn't earn enough points in a 5-2 loss at the hands of No. 66 BYU in front of a crowd of 200 fans at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels fell to 4-1 on the year while the Cougars improved to 5-5.

BYU took a 1-0 lead by taking the first two completed doubles matches.

In singles, the Rebels looked strong early by taking the first sets throughout the top half of the lineup. Tamas Batyi got the hosts on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Robin Pfister at the third spot. Dimitar Petrov rallied in his match on court five, downing Matthew Pearce 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 for UNLV's second point. However, BYU got two straight-set wins and then rallied for victories on both of the top two courts to finish it.

"I was proud of the guys for battling today considering how we had a number of them who were dealing with injuries and sickness," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We had an awesome crowd and I would like to thank all the students, staff, the No Quit Tennis Academy, and everyone else from the community who attended. Everyone is looking forward to playing San Diego State."

Next up, UNLV will play its first Mountain West Conference opponent of the season when it hosts the Aztecs on Sunday beginning with doubles at 11 a.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
