LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team rallied to win a marathon battle over UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Lady Rebels improved to 7-6 while the Gauchos fell to 3-10.

UCSB began the day by taking two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. UNLV's lone victory came at the top where Lucia Batta and Santa Shumilina downed Priscila Garcia and Kaiulani Boyer 8-6.

The hosts were put in position to have to take four of six singles matches and they did just that -- barely.

Batta, ranked 51st, was done first, sweeping by April Scatliffe 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot. Iren Kotseva gave UNLV the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stacy Yam at No. 4. Shumilina took three sets to finish off Kiersten Meehan 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3 before UCSB eventually tied the match at 3.

All eyes moved to court two where senior Aleksandra Josifoska went the distance against Boyer, finally taking the decisive point, 5-7, 7-6, 7-5.

Next up, UNLV will host Columbia on Monday. Doubles play begins at 9 a.m. and admission is free of charge.
