LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a 6-1 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 9-7 on the year, while the Lumberjacks fell to 7-7.
The hosts won both completed doubles to earn a 1-0 lead. Ace Matias and Denys Pume won 8-2 over Kester Black and Fabio Tomasetti at the top spot and Willie Sublette and Tamas Batyi shut out Alexandre Locci and Blaine Mengert at No. 2.
In singles play, the Rebels took all five straight-setters to clinch it.
Matias downed Jordan Gobatie 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Pume got by Locci 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2; Batyi fought off Tomasetti 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3; Dimitar Petrov defeated Trevor Unger 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5; and Jakob Amilon beat Mengert 6-3, 6-2 on court six.
UNLV is right back on the courts Sunday when it returns to Mountain West Conference play by hosting Air Force beginning with doubles at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
