LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team did not lose a set in closing out its non-conference schedule with a 7-0 victory over a short-handed Southern Utah squad on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 10-9 overall.
The hosts began the day by taking two doubles matches for one team point. Lucia Batta and Santa Shumilina got by Veronika Rogova and Alex Ivanova 8-7 at the top spot while Aleksandra Josifoska and Iren Kotseva downed Jane Marushko and Sarah Lundin 8-1 on court two.
In singles, Batta, ranked 63rd, improved to 25-8 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ivanova at the top position. Batta is now just one victory away from tying Jolene Watanabe (120 singles wins from 1987-90) for second place all-time at UNLV.
Josifoska downed Rogova 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; Shumilina swept Marushko 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3; Kotseva blanked Madeline Skaras 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4; Paola Artiga downed Lundin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5; and Kamelia Dimitrova won by forfeit at the sixth position.
Next up, head coach Kevin Cory's squad will close out its regular season by hosting San Diego State on April 19. Senior Day will start with doubles play at 10 a.m. and admission is free of charge.
