LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel cross country team will returns to action this Saturday with its own UNLV Invitational at Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas. The one-day event will consist of a total of six races with two apiece on the collegiate, high school varsity and junior varsity levels. The Rebels, who took a week off from competition after a third-place finish at the Fresno State Invitational on Sept. 5, will take to the course at 8:15 am in a collegiate 5K against teams from Dixie State, Southern Utah and Utah Valley.
In Fresno, the Scarlet & Gray got seventh- and ninth-place showings from Spencer Moore and Rebecca Hobby, while Vannessa Martinez (16th), Nikki Regalado (18th) and Auzsane Crowe-Carter (19th) gave the team five top-20 scorers.
"We are excited to host the meet here in Las Vegas," said head coach Jebreh Harris. Our team is motivated and ready to compete the way that we know we can. Spencer Moore and Rebecca Hobby have been setting the pace for us this season in training and in our first meet. I know this group will continue to only get better. Any one of my top five could be the top finisher on any given day, so I'm looking for us to compete well and race close with each other."
The meet kicks off at 7:30 am with the college/university men's 6K between Dixie State, Southern Utah and Utah Valley.
Four more 5K races will follow the women's collegiate offering beginning with the varsity boys at 8:45 am, which will be followed by the varsity girls (9:30 am), JV boys (10:20 am) and JV girls (11:00 am).
