Rebels Open Their World Series Tuesday

Oct. 26, 2015

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Fresh off an exhibition game against the Utah Utes last Saturday, UNLV baseball will hold its annual Scarlet & Gray World Series over the next 11 days at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Series, which is scheduled to conclude Nov. 6 with an "if necessary" fifth game, will commence Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 8:30 am.

In all, three games will be contested this week with the second and third slated for Thursday (Oct. 29/Gray) and Friday (Oct. 30/Scarlet), respectively. The fourth installment is set for Nov. 4 (Scarlet), while the fifth -- an "if necessary" game -- will be on Nov. 6 (Gray).

The Gray enters the Series winners of two straight (2013 and '14); however, it will be without two-time MVP Erik VanMeetren, who plays professionally for the Auburn DoubleDays after the Washington Nationals signed him in June.

Captains Cody Howard and Kenny Oakley will lead the Gray with a roster comprised of Ben Wright, Blaze Bohall, Cody Roper, Christian Myers, Ryan Hare, Jack Freedman, Bryan Menendez, Vince Taormina, Corey Pool, Cooper Esmay, Austin Anderson, Javy Garcia, Carlos Robles, Hunter Bross, A.J. VanMeetren and Keyon Allen.

Justin Jones, another 2015-16 captain, and Braydon Torres will guide the Scarlet, whose roster is made up of D.J. Myers, Dean Kremer, Larry Quaney III, Tevita Gerber, Corey Wilson, Chase Maddux, Dan Skelly, Paul Richy, Andrew Yazdanbakhsh, Zack Stockton, Nick Ames, Payton Squier, Nick Rodriguez, Kyle Isbel, Max Smith, John Morey, Grant Robbins and Gage Whitehead.

The Scarlet & Gray World Series is free to the public and fans are invited to attend.

The Rebels open the 2016 campaign on the road against the Texas Longhorns in Austin for a three-game series scheduled for Feb. 19-21. They'll return to Las Vegas for a seven-game stretch that begins with four against the West Virginia Mountaineers (Feb. 26-29) and three more versus the San Jose State Spartans (March 4-6).
