Dec. 16, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's basketball's Brooke Johnson has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The new award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
Johnson posted career-highs in back-to-back games to help the Lady Rebels rally twice from double-digit second half deficits to a pair of road wins. She hit a career-high four three-pointers (out of five attempts) on the way to 17 points in UNLV's 63-60 road win at Houston on Dec. 12, and went 3-of-4 at the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, she shot 10-of-15 from the floor for a new career-high 25 points to carry UNLV to a 65-51 win and added four steals in the win. With UNLV up 46-45 to begin the fourth quarter, she scored the first eight points, helping UNLV go on a 9-0 run in the opening six minutes of the final quarter to take control. She also averaged 3.5 rebounds, two assists, three steals and 0.5 blocks for the week while shooting 57.8%, 54.5% from three-point range (6-of-11).
