Patrick McCaw has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. McCaw becomes the first Rebel win the weekly award twice and in consecutive weeks.
The new award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
McCaw led the Runnin' Rebels to a 3-0 week that included a win over then-No. 13/14 Indiana at the Maui Invitational. He scored a career-high 25 points in a 93-73 win over Chaminade and averaged 21.0 points, 5.7 assists and 4.3 steals in the three-game span - all team highs. He also collected 3.3 rebounds per game and shot 57.1 percent from the field (24 of 42), 47.6 percent from three-point range (10 of 21) and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.
McCaw was also named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday that included his efforts (game-high-tying 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals) against UCLA.
