LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field and cross country programs have received signed national letters of intent from five student-athletes -- Kaysee Pilgrim, Kaysha Love, Kennedy Allen, Alexis MacArthur and Caitlin Amburgey, head coach Yvonne Wade announced Wednesday.
"We are excited about the group of student-athletes that will be joining our program," said Wade. "Each of them will be a strong addition to this team and will help us achieve our goals of being Mountain West Conference champions and a nationally recognized team."
Pilgrim, a native of Phoenix, will attend UNLV in the spring of 2016 after spending two years at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. She was a three-time national champion in the high jump (two indoor and one outdoor) and a four-time NJCCA All-American. Leading up to her first-place finish at the outdoor national championships last May, she tied the NJCCA's national outdoor record with a jump of 6-1.25 (1.86m) two months after she registered a winning jump of 5-10.5 (1.79m) at the indoor meet. As a student-athlete at Goldwater High School, she won the Arizona Division II state championship in the high jump.
Love, a senior at Herriman High School in Herriman, Utah, has won the Utah state championship in both the 100m and 200m three straight years (2013-15). She owns a personal-best mark of 11.68 in the 100m and 24.11 in the 200m. She has also registered a high jump measurement of 5-5 (1.65m), and previously competed as a level 10 gymnast.
Allen, MacArthur and Amburgey will compete in cross country and track & field at UNLV.
Allen, who hails from Portland, Ore., and attends David Douglas High School is a two-time district champion in cross country and an all-state first team honoree. Her personal bests in the 3K (track) is 10:17.30 and 5K (XC) is 18:13.
MacArthur will come to UNLV from Orem High School in Orem, Utah. She is a two-time regional champion in the 1600m and 3200m, who owns bests of 11:14.1 in the 3200m (track) and 17:44 in the 3-mile (XC).
Amburgey was tabbed the 2015 Top Nevada Senior in cross country after she earned league and regional championship titles at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. She ran a personal-best of 18:54 in the 5K (XC).
