LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team opened its home schedule by blanking New Mexico State 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels improved to 1-2 while Aggies fell to 0-2.

UNLV won the first two doubles matches to secure the team point. Denys Pume and Jakob Amilon downed Strahinja Trecakov and Patrick Pfister 6-4 at the top position while Ruben Alberts and Ace Matias defeated Liam Goldberg and Thomas Douglas 6-2 at the second spot.

In singles, the hosts swept four matches and also took both that went to super-tiebreakers.

Matias downed Trecakov 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1; Pume beat Goldberg 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 2; Amilon defeated Christofer Goncalves 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3; Alexandr Cozbinov rolled past Pfister 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4; Alberts outlasted Germain Degardin, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10) at No. 5; and Artur Culicovschi swept Charles Baron 6-1, 6-4 on court six.

"It was great to finally play at home and we appreciate all of the other teams and our fans who came out to support us," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "New Mexico State is a solid team and I was pleased with the way we competed."

The Rebels are right back on the courts Saturday when they host Weber State, starting with doubles play a 2 p.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
