LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team won its third straight match, 4-0 over UC Riverside on Sunday to close out a successful weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 3-2 on the year by not losing a match in singles or doubles play.
UNLV won two of three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead. Jakob Amilon and Denys Pume downed Marcus Vizcarra and Sina Shariffi 6-0 at the top of the lineup while Ruben Alberts and Ace Matias defeated Michael Carella and Cooper Bridge by the same score on court two.
The teams agreed to stop as soon as one side reached the clinching fourth point in singles and it did not take the hosts long to get there. Jakob Amilon downed Luis Gastao 6-3, 6-0 at the second spot; Alexandr Cozbinov swept Bridge 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 position; and Adam Gage-Brown defeated Vizcarra 6-1, 6-3 on court five. The remaining three matches were then halted.
"Today was a good finish to the weekend with a solid effort," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "We will now turn our focus to having a good week of practice before playing our first conference match of the season against Boise State."
The Rebels will host the Broncos Saturday at 3 p.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
