LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team climbed above the .500 mark again with a 4-3 win over Marquette on a warm Friday the 13th at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 5-4 while the Golden Eagles fell to 6-8.
UNLV won the key doubles point to start the day, taking two of the three matches. The Rebel duo of Denys Pume and Alexandr Cozbinov downed Scott Christian and Andre Romanello, 6-4, on court three and the decisive win came at the second position where Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts outlasted Nick Dykema and Kristian Trukov in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).
In singles play, the visitors won all three matches that went three sets. However, UNLV picked up points from Ace Matias, 6-1, 6-2 over Daniel Fernandez at the top spot; Cozbinov, 6-3, 7-6 over Romanello at No. 5; and Alberts, 7-6, 6-1 over Gleb Skly on court six, to win it.
Next up, the Rebels will host NAU on Sunday beginning with doubles play at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
