LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - In the first meeting of the two programs since 1991, the UNLV women's tennis team lost 5-2 to 28th-ranked Purdue at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Thursday.
The Rebels dropped to 5-10 on the year while the Boilermakers won their seventh straight match to improve to 9-2.
Purdue won both completed doubles matches to forge a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the visitors won four matches to clinch it but UNLV picked up points in the heart of the lineup as Paola Artiga downed Deborah Suarez, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) in a super-tiebreaker at No. 4 and Mercedes Lopez Valez swept Nicole Robinson 6-0, 6-3 on court five.
UNLV will return to the courts on Saturday when its hosts Columbia, starting with doubles at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
