LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team downed UC Riverside 6-1 Saturday after losing a 4-3 match to Northern Arizona earlier in the day at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
After the split, the Rebels' record now stands at 5-6 overall.
In the win over the Highlanders, the hosts won the two completed doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Paola Artiga and Santa Shumilina downed Karla Dalay and Kassie Truong 6-1 at the second position while Iren Kotseva and Alexis Garrett downed Caroline Hall and Sophie El-Kara 6-2 at the third spot.
In singles, UNLV won on court 2-6. Anett Ferenczi-Bako rolled past Dulay 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2; Kotseva downed Hall 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3; Artiga swept Tamilla Vaksman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Mercedes Lopez Valez whitewashed Truong 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and Garrett fought off El-Kara 6-4, 6-4 on court six.
The Rebels are next in action on Wednesday when they host Penn starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
