Kenny Oakley was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announcedtonight.
Oakley, a junior from Henderson, Nev., earned his first win of the 2015 season in a complete-game shutout performance of Nevada, Reno over the weekend. The Rebels beat their in-state rival 1-0, which ended afour-game losing streak.
Oakley struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed the Wolf Pack to only four hits. Only three UNR baserunners made it past first base and only one made it to third base. 63 percent of the pitches Oakley threw in the game went for strikes and he recorded multiple strikeouts in the second, fifth, eighth and ninth innings. It is the third time Oakley has been named MW Pitcher of the Week in his career. He was honored in 2013 following his first collegiate start against Gonzaga (Feb. 25, 2013) and in 2014 following his performance against UNR (May 19, 2014).
UNLV returns to action this week as it travels to face No. 12 Arizona State on Wednesday. The game will be broadcast locally onSports Radio 920 The Game with Dug Dugless handling the play-by-play duties. The Rebels will continue their travels later in the week as they will resume Mountain West action on Friday against Air Force.
