2015 USATF Outdoor Championships: Schedule | Live Results | Thursday's Results
EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field alumna Lekeisha Lawson ran a personal-best time of 11.06 in the preliminary round of the 100m Thursday at the 2015 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field. Lawson, who is one of five individuals at the national meet with direct ties to the Scarlet & Gray, advances to the event's semifinals Friday (5:00 pm) after she finished third overall in the fourth heat -- 11th-fastest time overall.
Not only is Lawson (2006-09) running in the 100m -- the final is scheduled for Friday at 7:21 pm, but she is also entered in the 200m. Unfortunately, she will have to wait until Saturday (12:30 pm) to participate in the latter.
Three members of the 2015 Rebel roster that just completed their freshmen campaigns will compete Friday in the USATF's Outdoor Junior Championships. Drea Austin (Las Vegas/Foothill HS) will get the day started at 11:00 am in the 100m preliminary. Taylor Pegram will follow 40 minutes later in the 100m hurdles preliminary, while MacKenna Howard must wait until 2:45 pm for the shot put (final).
Austin will also run in the junior 200m Saturday (3:41 pm).
Amanda Bingson (2009-12) rounds out the Rebel quintet at the four-day meet in the Beaver State. The Las Vegas native and Silverado High School graduate enters Saturday's hammer throw (12:15 pm) as the two-time defending USATF champion and American record holder (248-5/74.92m). Just one month after she completed her collegiate career, she finished second in the hammer at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and in turn earned the chance to represent the United States at the London Olympics.
