Jan. 20, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's tennis' Carol Zi Yang has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
Yang posted two upset victories over nationally ranked players over the weekend as part of the Freeman Memorial Tournament in Las Vegas that garnered her Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She went 5-2 overall in singles and doubles against the elite field, making it to the semifinals in doubles before losing to the nation's No. 2-ranked duo from UNC. In singles, she shocked No. 25 Kourtney Keegan of Florida and then one day later stunned No. 76 Spencer Liang, also of Florida, to close out her tourney run.
