LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebels have a quick turnaround after returning from Texas on Tuesday night as they host the 15th annual Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown this Sunday, Oct.23 through Tuesday, Oct. 25. The 54-hole tournament will take place at UNLV's home course, Boulder Creek Golf Club.
After finishing 15th in the first tournament of the year in New Mexico, the Rebels were much improved at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin Oct. 17-18. After two rounds on day one, the Rebels were in fourth place with a 14-over 590, with senior Alexandra Kaui leading the way after carding a 2-over 146, which put her in a four-way tie for ninth place. Ultimately, UNLV finished the invitational in seventh place with a score of 220-over 886. Kaui had the top finish for the Rebels, shooting a solid final round score of 1-over 73 in the final 18 holes to bring her three-round score to 3-over 219, which was for a tie for 13th place. Kaui's highlight of the tournament was an eagle on the 17th hole during round two.
This weekend the Rebels will try to win their own tournament for the third time in history of the Showdown. Last year they were co-champions along with Vanderbilt, who is back this year to try to defend its title. Both teams shot an outstanding 33-under 831 over the three-day tournament in 2015 to share the title.
The invitational will be conducted over three days, with one round a day, on the Desert Hawk & Coyote Run Courses at Boulder Creek Golf Club (par-72, 6,301 yards).
