Amilon Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Men's Tennis senior Jakob Amilon has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Competing at the ITA Regional Tournament at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, the Stockholm, Sweden, native did not lose a single set as he dispatched six opponents en route to the program's second ITA Regional Single Championships and its first in 11 years. Seeded third and ranked 124th nationally, Amilon won the final in straight sets Sunday over ninth-seeded Kai Wehnelt of Utah State, 6-4, 6-3. The senior also went 2-1 in doubles play.

Amilon not only earned the regional championship but also a ticket that comes with it to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which will take place November 3-6 at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
