March 2, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's diver Lucas James has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. James has now won the weekly award twice after previously receiving the honor on Feb. 3.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
James became the first ever Rebel to garner a conference championship on the platform diving event, thanks to his new UNLV and WAC record score of 344.80. The conference title was the first for a UNLV diver since 1987. In addition to his platform win he was runner-up on the 3-meter and took fifth on the 1-meter at the conference championships. He has qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones on all three.
