LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team opened up its conference schedule strong by defeating No. 60 New Mexico 4-1 Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Rebels' improved to 6-6 while the Lobos' fell to 12-11. This loss snapped the Lobos' nine-match win streak and broke the Rebels' four-match losing streak.

UNLV won two doubles matches to secure the team point. Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts doubled up on Augustus Ge and Rodolfo Jauregui 6-3 at the top position while Evaldo Neto and Adam Gage-Brown forged a 6-3 win against Bart Van Leijsen and Michael Tran at the second position.

In singles, the hosts swept three matches.

Amilon downed Van Leijsen 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1; Alexandr Cozbinov beat Jorge Escutia 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2; Richard Solberg broke away from Sean Bakini 6-1, 6-2 at the bottom of the lineup.

UNLV is right back on the courts Saturday when it hosts Montana starting with doubles play at 9 a.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
