March 30, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's swimmer Dillon Virva has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
Thanks to his 9th place showing (19.07) in the 50 Free at the NCAA Men's Swimming Championships over the weekend in Atlanta as a sophomore, Virva earned Honorable Mention All-American status and is the seventh Rebel all-time to earn individual All-America status at least twice in their career (the first since Cody Roberts in 2010 and 2011). The ninth place showing in the event was the highest individual finish for a Rebel since 2000, and the time of 19.07 topped his previous mark of 19.09 and set a new UNLV and WAC record. He also placed 47th (48.59) in the 100 Fly and 33rd in the 100 Free (43.50), a personal best in the event.
