RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 53rd ranked UNLV women's tennis team moved into position to earn valuable points for their side in the Governor's Series by downing Nevada, Reno 4-2 on Sunday at the Lakeridge Indoor Tennis Courts. The match was presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold.

However, UNLV must wait to see if the teams play again in the league's postseason event later this month before claiming the three points in the all-encompassing competition, which UNLV currently leads 10.5-7.5.

The Rebels improved to 20-1 overall and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play while the Wolf Pack dropped to 8-7 and 1-1 in the league.

The Pack grabbed a quick 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches. UNLV's lone victory came at the bottom of the lineup where Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga doubled up on Monika Magusiak and Sara Korzeniecki 6-3. The Rebels were put in the position to have to take four of five singles matches and they did just that.

Moving to singles, Anna Bogoslavets tied the match at one after downing Adriana Gergelyova 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. UNLV took a 2-1 advantage when Aiwen Zhu outlasted Sheila Morales 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 at No.2. The Pack started to turn the tide after Claudia Herrero went the distance with No. 82 ranked Carol Yang 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at the top of the lineup to tie the match up again at two. The third lead change of the match came from Artiga's win in three sets over Blaga Delic 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 to give the netters a 3-2 lead. Kotseva sealed it for the Rebels when she posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Korzeniecki on court five.

The Lady Rebs will return to the Fertitta Tennis Complex on April 23rd to conclude regular season play against conference foe San Diego State with doubles at 10 a.m. PT. The team's lone senior, Iren Kotseva, will be honored before the match and admission is free of charge.
